HMS Site Based Council
What is the HMS SBC?

Site-Based Council (SBC) is a committee of parents to being a communication link between parents, students, teachers, community and administrators. This year the SBC has organized the fund raiser for the school, helped StuCo with the Fall Festival, and many other activities.
The yearly fund raiser, decided upon by SBC, goes toward purchasing the memory book as well as giving towards field trips for the students, many club supplies, organizing the 8th grade promotion reception and many other programs at the middle school.
The SBC meets monthly with a guest speaker each month. Some of our speakers this year have been: the Head Cook explaining the lunch program, our Transportation director talking about the different concerns about busing and Gordon Mohn, our Superintendent, has come to present the next year's calendar. Speakers are chosen by the SBC from the different areas that parents would like to learn more about.
If you'd like to be a part of this committee and learn more about the policies and traditions at the middle school, call either Wendy McCarty, or the HMS office. We are looking for several current 5th grade parents to serve on this committee.
Following is a list of where the money from the SBC Fundraiser has gone:
- Field trips for 6th, 7th & 8th graders
- portable sound system
- projection screen
- 8th grade promotion reception
- Ping-pong table & foosball table
- benches for the front of the middle school
- Next year's $2 math notebooks
- (students will receive at no cost)
- Bullying T-shirts
- Buzzer system for Quiz bowl team
- Assessment Test treats
- Hoops for Heart prizes
- Payed for a group to attend a Crown Uptown presentation
- Donated $1500 to a Huricane Katrina vicitm school
- Fall Festival
- Trojan Buck -Pizza Hut reward meals
- Megaphone for Athletic Dept/track meets
- Recess Equipment
- Memory books for each student at no cost
