Kevin Colle is a new teacher here at Hillsboro High School. Here are some questions we asked Mr. Colle to learn more about him.

How do you like teaching at a new school? Do you like the environment?

Hillsboro has been a great place to be so far. I love the community both in and out of the school. I have a lot of fun with our Seniors in Government, which is my favorite subject area to teach.

What is your favorite hobby?

Watching any of my teams, mostly the Cats, Chiefs, and Royals. I try to make it to every KSU home football game. I also am a runner. I have run a couple of half marathons and am planning to keep it up. Coaching cross country has let me share my love of running with our team.

Do you have any hidden talents?

It's not so hidden, but I play tuba and trumpet pretty well. I played the tuba for 4 years in the K-State Marching Band. I also dabble with a few other instruments, including the Bass Guitar and Accordion, although I wouldn't really say I am great at them.

What college did you attend and what was your major?

I attended K-State and graduated a few years ago with a Secondary Education degree with an emphasis in Social Studies. Since then, I have been in graduate school working on a Master's in Community  Development, also at K-State.

What inspired you to be a teacher?

I had some great teachers when I was in high school that inspired me to go into education. I knew I wanted to teach something I enjoyed, definitely not math or science. I also knew I wanted to coach something I enjoyed, like CC or track. I was fortunate enough to land here where I can do all of that!

Tell us what it's like teaching in the same building as your wife.

It's been good to be able to eat lunch together and for me to help her out with band. She is doing a great job trying to build up the band and having them play at home games on the field. We don't really see each other much through the day, though, so it doesn't feel like we work together that much as much as supporting each other.
